Complan is the UK’s best known brand of food supplements, with a range of nutritional milkshakes for the elderly and malnourished.
When Complan was acquired from HJ Heinz in 2002 it was languishing as an orphan brand with a great heritage but little focus or attention. The deal was led by Andrew Leek whilst working for SAATCHiNVEST. During the period of ownership the business:
- Built a fully functioning management team
- Entered the prescription market with a specially formulated product
- More than doubled its retail distribution
- Invested heavily in international distributors (trading in 15 countries)
Having been reinvigorated from a forgotten brand into a growing business at the juncture of food and pharma, the business was ultimately sold to Danone.
